Climate Crunch

Climate crunch

What's the problem?

Times are tough. The world is under threat from climate change caused by our carbon-intensive lifestyles. All of us will soon be at risk from the effects of changes to our climate.

Why Should I Care?

Even small changes in the environment are likely to have huge impacts upon all the world's inhabitants. And it will be the poorest that are least able to adapt to lower agricultural production, increased risk of fires, droughts, floods and heatwaves (IPCC 2007).

Yet it is the world's richest who continue to pollute the most. The longer we wait, the more difficult it will be to help the world's most vulnerable to adapt and the more expensive it will be for us to combat it.

We must act now to safeguard our future, and the future of our descendents, but Labour and the Conservatives won't do anything about it.

What's the solution?

Isn't it time we did something about climate change?  Isn't it time we elected a Lib Dem government?

Unlike the other parties, the Lib Dems believe in switching taxes from positive activities like working to polluting activities like flying, creating dirty energy and driving huge cars.

Unlike the other parties, we have credible plans to make Britain 100% carbon-neutral by 2050. But we won't do it by making people's lives more difficult, or more expensive.

A recent Energy & Environmental Audit by Carbon Descent (formerly SEA Renue) found that the Liberal Democrats HQ in London, where Liberal Youth is based, is performing very well overall in environmental terms and our energy use is at best practice levels in most areas.

What's in it for me?

Luckily, it doesn't cost the earth to be green. In fact, living environmentally will save you money, protect you from the scourge of foreign oil imports, reduce levels of pollutants that cause illnesses like asthma and help you stay fit. So you can protect the planet whilst protecting your bank balance and your looks.
