What is Liberal Youth?

We’re the youth and student wing of the Liberal Democrats, representing the interests of all members aged 26 and under, and everyone registered as a student. We campaign, train members, run events, recruit new members and develop policy, amongst other things! If you are a member of the Liberal Democrats aged 26 or below, or you're registered as a student, you are automatically a member of Liberal Youth too.

What do we do?

We run campaigns on issues affecting our peers and issues we believe are being ignored by the wider political community, and sometimes even the Liberal Democrat party itself. We also run campaigning events such as protests and action days.

As such, we have been at the forefront of the party’s campaigning efforts on tuition fees, constantly pushed through radical policies on issues such as lowering the voting age to 16, and our Save Darfur campaign has helped keep the genocide in Darfur on the political agenda and at the forefront of students’ minds.

Our members also have the opportunity to determine the direction of Liberal Youth. We run our own conferences, where policy is debated and voted on by members, and the executive is elected in an all-member ballot every year.

We also run training events such as Activate, to give our members the skills and confidence they need to go out campaigning in their local area. We produce a monthly e-newsletter, 'Yell', and a quarterly PDF magazine, the Libertine for our members and activists. There are also regular opportunities to intern in Liberal Youth's office based in Liberal Democrat HQ.
